What the recruiting engagement covers
Confirm the scope with BEGHR before authorizing work. Permanent placement supports an employer hiring directly; it is not a promise of temporary staff or an available candidate inventory.
- Identify which sourcing and screening tasks BEGHR will perform.
- Set interview ownership and a process for timely feedback.
- Confirm fees, milestones and responsibilities in the written engagement.
Prepare the role brief
Write down the information a candidate needs to evaluate the position before the search begins.
- Separate clinical sessions from protected leadership time.
- Define authority over standards, mentoring and clinical decisions.
- Explain reporting lines, budget input and measures of success.
Plan the work location in Albuquerque.
Name the street address, municipality and county, and keep Albuquerque’s planning areas separate from the surrounding towns. Several places cross county lines: Rio Rancho reaches Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, and the Census Bureau lists Edgewood under Bernalillo, Sandoval and Santa Fe counties. The town of Bernalillo is in Sandoval County, not Bernalillo County, and the South Valley, the North Valley and Placitas are census designated places, not cities. Coverage on this site is limited to New Mexico; a hospital in another state falls under a different licensing authority.
Give the hiring team one brief for each facility, with clinical work, technician delegation, on-call duties and location commitments stated together. New Mexico asks veterinarians for 15 hours of continuing education every year, renews licenses each year in the birth month with no grace period and requires a jurisprudence examination, so state the support and the start-date dependencies in the offer. O*NET OnLine, using Bureau of Labor Statistics 2025 wage data, lists a higher median annual wage for veterinarians in the Albuquerque area than for New Mexico overall or the United States, which is context candidates may bring to an offer. The Higher Education Department’s WICHE page says New Mexico students can enroll at selected out-of-state programs that New Mexico public universities do not offer, and it lists veterinary medicine among them. This site describes employer hiring coverage without claiming an Albuquerque recruiting office.

For an Albuquerque hospital, Rule 16.25.7 NMAC requires a facility license for every facility where veterinary medicine regularly occurs, and a hospital not owned by a New Mexico licensed veterinarian must name a licensee manager or responsible DVM who answers for record keeping, controlled substances and quality of care. Rule 16.25.9 NMAC requires records to be kept at least four years after an animal’s last visit, copies to be provided within 10 working days of a written client request, and a separate log for each controlled substance with an annual inventory. Rule 11.1.6 NMAC sets the State’s earned sick leave accrual and record rules. An Albuquerque medical director brief should say whether the title carries the licensee manager duty, which records the leader signs and what share of the week is clinical, so that an Albuquerque candidate can compare the authority with the workload.
Plan New Mexico credential checks before the start date.
New Mexico licenses veterinarians and registered veterinary technicians through the New Mexico Board of Veterinary Medicine, and each facility holds its own facility license issued by the Board. Assign a person to verify license status and the expiration date, record the verification date and resolve questions with the Board. Check any specialty credentials the employer requires with the issuing organization.
